Millefiori Glass Bead Statement Necklace

This necklace is a little different from most of the pieces I've made, and that's exactly why I love it.

These beautiful millefiori glass beads immediately caught my attention. I love the cobalt blue, amber, sage, and gold colors, but it's the intricate patterns inside each bead that really make them special.

Millefiori means “a thousand flowers,” and the name comes from the colorful, flower-like designs created inside the glass. These aren't patterns simply added to the surface—the glass itself is constructed in layers and formed into patterned canes, which are then sliced to reveal those tiny designs. It's a fascinating glassmaking tradition with a tremendous amount of skill behind it.

I wanted the beads to be the stars of this necklace, so I kept the rest of the design simple. Each 12 mm bead is individually hand-linked onto a delicate sterling silver chain, allowing the colors and patterns to really stand out.

I'm hoping to find more of these unique glass beads because I would love to incorporate them into future Jasper & Jade designs. They're just too interesting to keep to myself! 😊

Millefiori glass is a beautiful art form in its own right. The intricate designs are created within the glass itself through the layering, forming, stretching, slicing, and fusing of patterned glass canes. Each tiny bead is a little piece of that craftsmanship.
